Gorée
Gorée is an island 3kms off the coast of Dakar. A place of great importance, it was a trading post for the Portuguese, Dutch, English and French. Thousands of Africans were deported to the USA, the West Indies, Brazil, Haiti and Cuba, bringing an entire culture and civilization with them. Diola rhythm. (Saw Ruba).

A song about struggle. An aged fighter tells stories about his feats and speaks about struggle; about life, which requires sacrifice, courage, patience, willpower and faith: “Fa nou diare. coufa diare taaha banne.”: There where we pass, the one who comes next collects mud. Djisalbero
The story of a woman who prays to the god Djisalbero for a child. Her prayers go unanswered and she looks all around her at the other women with children who barely spend time caring for them or even abandon them. Diola song. Boncarabon rhythm.

Soweto
The struggle for the liberation of oppressed black people and of people oppressed in their homeland. The struggle for the unification of African people. The struggle against racism and apartheid.

Gorée est une île située à 3 Kms de Dakar. Lieu très important, elle fut un comptoir d’échange portugais, hollandais, anglais et français. Des milliers d’Africains furent déportes vers les USA, les Antilles, le Brésil, Haïti et Cuba transportant toute une culture et une civilisation.

L’histoire d’une femme qui demande au Dieu Djisalbero dans ses prières un enfant. Elle n’arrive pas à en avoir et elle voit qu’autour d’elle, les autres femmes qui ne s’en occupent guère ou les abandonnent…
